5 Winter Care Tips for Party-Ready hair
Making your hair look bright, shiny and bouncy during harsh winters could be a challenge. Along with the temperature-drop comes dull, frizzy, and lifeless hair due to lack of moisture in the air. Neeti Chopra – Skin & Hair Expert and Founder of UNWIND Salon and Cafe details a few expert tips on keeping your hair party-ready during the winters.
LESS SHAMPOO, MORE CONDITIONER
As the air gets drier during winters, it’s important to lock in the vital natural oils in your scalp. Hence, shampooing should be done less frequently. Warm or lukewarm water is recommended for hair wash, as hot water can dry out your hair. Hair conditioning is vital to ensure thorough moisturisation and nourishment for your hair – you can double-up the use of conditioners during the season.
NO WET HAIR OUTDOORS
Do not ever step out with wet hair during the cold season, as wet hair is more prone to breakage and damage. Let your hair completely air-dry and if you are in a hurry, dry your hair using a hairdryer on the cold temperature setting. Try and cover your hair with a hat or a scarf in extreme weather conditions to protect it from losing moisture.
OIL REGULARLY
Oil your hair with warm coconut or olive oil at least once a week to avoid a dry and flaky scalp which often leads to dandruff. Leave the oil in your hair for 20-30 minutes before washing it off. You can use a leave-in conditioner after oiling your hair as it will help retain more moisture and restore shine, while also combatting frizz & static.
PROFESSIONAL CONSULTATION
Regularly visit your Hairdresser and get professional hair care treatments during the winter season. This is to ensure that any lost nourishment is replenished regularly. Also, get regular hair trims done to avoid split ends.
EAT RIGHT, DRINK RIGHT
Eat a balanced diet and stay hydrated. Drink lots of water and consume essential nutrients from fruits & green leafy vegetables to help ensure that your body & hair is well hydrated & nourished from inside out.
