Save Salon India: Hair & Beauty Industry Writes to President of India

With about 19 hairdressers/barbers reportedly committing suicide in Maharashtra and Jharkhand due to financial woes brought on by the COVID crisis, the Save Salon India has called upon members of the hair and beauty industry in India to raise their voices and help grab the government’s attention. The goal of the initiative is to secure financial assistance to the families of the deceased.

Speaking about the campaign, Ashok Paliwal of Save Salon India said, “In this current scenario, we should help these poor people whose livelihoods have been severely affected by the lack of business. The government should provide financial aid to the barber community; they can also waive off electricity bills. We have also requested for medical insurance and relief on GST for nine months. We also request landlords to offer discounts to salon owners — several businesses have remained closed for a long time and this has also led to unemployment. We have asked for 50 lakh rupees for the families of the hairdressers who have committed suicide. We are also trying to establish a hair and beauty federation who can actively work on this matter.”

The Save Salon India initiative has formally written to the President of India, Prime Minister Modi and other concerned ministers at central and state levels, seeking a solution to the current crisis faced by the beauty and hairdressing community across the country.
