Add Double Cleansing to your Skin Care Routine
There was a time when everyone believed that washing our face with a face wash was all the cleansing our skin needed before we hit the sack and call it a night. Then the concept of double cleansing came and our skincare ritual was never the same. Double Cleansing is a fundamental and essential step in your daily regimen that is not talked about enough.
Double cleansing is a two-step process where you clean your face with an oil-based cleanser, followed by a mild water-based cleanser. It helps the skin get rid of particulate matter and dust residue. Essentially, an oil-based cleanser is what one must reach out for as it helps you break down impurities to give your skin the cleanse it needs. All the build-up makeup, oil, dirt, dust particles, etc. gets broken down by using an oil-based cleanser. This is followed by a water-based cleanser that removes any remaining residue on your face and leaves your skin squeaky clean.
Here are some expert tips by Dr Aneesh Sheth- Founder, Dr. Sheth’s on how to do it right:
- You can double cleanse every day but it is definitely a MUST when you have a long day outdoors or have applied a lot of make-up.
- Make sure the oil-based cleanser has a cleansing agent in it – if you just do it with oil, you may end up overdrying your skin.
- Let your second cleanse be with a mild cleanser – not soap – a gel, cream or lotion-based cleanser is ideal. Pick one best suited for your skin type.
- Avoid using SLS or SLES in your second cleanse.
- Double cleanse, both in the morning and at night, to make sure you have squeaky clean skin always. Ensure you apply sunscreen in the day and a nourishing night cream at night, after double-cleansing.
