Monsoons can have you worried about a number of skin and hair problems that simply sucks the joy out of this cool and comfy season. Skincare: Avoid going in contaminated or drain water on roads as there are high chances of skin infections. Your skin needs extra care during the monsoon season.
- Use proper footwear that covers your feet fully and thus prevent fungal/bacterial infection from dirty water.
- Pat dry your body if you getting wet in the rains.
- Damp clothing might lead to intertrigo and superficial fungal infection.
- Apply antifungal dusting powder all over the body, daily before wearing your clothes.
- Wash clothes in an anti-bacterial solution to prevent infection but make sure they are rinsed well in water before put to dry.
- Keep wet wipes and dry tissues handy.
- Use sanitizers before you handle any eatables.
- It is recommended to use antibacterial soap for bathing as well.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser, 2 – 3 times a day to remove excess grime and oil that can clog your pores.
- If you have acne-prone skin, avoid using excessive cosmetics and makeup.
- Tone your skin with non-alcoholic products that help restore your skin’s pH balance.
Haircare: Rain causes humidity which leads to split ends as rainwater has chlorine in it. Use protective water-proof gear and umbrellas to avoid getting your hair wet.
- Avoid tying up wet hair as it leads to bad odour, lice, infestation and folliculitis.
- Use a mild shampoo each time you wash hair, as more frequent washes are required during monsoons.
- Use of anti-dandruff shampoos for dandruff prone scalp.
- It is recommended to keep your hair length short for better care during monsoons
- Make sure to your dry hair properly after each wash.
- Use protective water-proof gear and umbrellas to avoid getting your hair.
- For frizzy hair, use a light hair serum to keep them manageable.
Diet also plays an important role in keeping your hair healthy. Go for protein-rich food like eggs, walnuts, and fish. Green leafy veggies, especially spinach, are also good for hair.
