Simple Steps to Keep Your Oily Skin Summer-Safe
Summer’s a season of fun – let’s keep our skincare routines simple but effective to get the most out of this happy time. If you have oily skin, the right skincare becomes vital to keep it protected during the harsh summers. Here are a few expert tips from Dr Blossom Kochhar:
Hot and humid weather conditions can increase the level of oil production. The key is to keep your skin clean, gently exfoliated, hydrated, and protected from the sun. But that doesn’t mean you need a complex skincare routine.
Keep Hydrated: Dehydration is common in the summers and the intake of liquids, especially water, is necessary to maintain moisture balance as well as detoxify the body.
Exfoliate in Moderation: Exfoliation helps in getting rid of the dead skin and leaves it feeling smooth and radiant. It is recommended to use a gentle face scrub in the morning before the application of toner, moisturiser, SPF and make-up. Ensure that you use a hydrating moisturiser to seal in the moisture and shield the freshly exfoliated skin.
Cleansing: Use lukewarm water for cleansing, as it dissolves oil more effectively than cold water. It helps in washing away the dirt and impurities that have been deposited on the skin and unclog the skin pores. Cleansing your face twice a day is enough to keep it clean. Use a gel-based cleanser that helps in reducing dead skin cells that clogs pores and leads to pimple outbreaks.
Natural Remedy: Stir ground oatmeal with hot water and add one tablespoon honey to it. Apply it on the face for 3 minutes and wash it off with water.
Sunburns & Tanning: While it’s great to get outside and absorb all that healthy vitamin D, basking in those sunny rays with proper precautions is not the best idea. Apply sunscreens 30 minutes before going out and reapply as long as you stay out in the sun, especially after a swim. Choose the broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects you from both UVA and UVB rays. Yoghurt, cool milk, mashed cucumber and aloe vera are natural remedies to soothe skin and relieve pain. You can also take a bath with a cup of apple cider vinegar in it.
Melting Make-Up: Choose lighter foundations as it will help balance out the extra oil production and leave your skin looking healthier. Pick out melt-proof products for your summer travel kit – powder, crayon, or stick formulas hold up much better than hydrating skin and lip products that contain a lot of oil. Take an ice cube and gently massage your face and neck with it, pat your skin dry with a clean towel and start applying your make up.
